This is a gorgeous large scale abstract oil painting on canvas from Alexis Portilla.. The title draws from the famous opening line 'Tyger, Tyger, burning bright' from the poem “The Tyger”, by the famous English poet, WILLIAM BLAKE:

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

This poem, published in 1794 as part of his Songs of Experience collection, is one of Blake's most reinterpreted and arranged works. Literary critic Alfred Kazin calls it "the most famous of his poems".

According to Kazin, the struggle of humanity is based on the concept of the contrary nature of things, Blake believed, and thus, to achieve truth one must see the contraries in innocence and experience. Experience is not the face of evil but rather another facet of that which created us. Rather than believing in war between good and evil or heaven and hell, Blake thought each man must first see and then resolve the contraries of existence and life. In "The Tyger" he presents a poem of "triumphant human awareness" and "a hymn to pure being", according to Kazin.

Professor Nicholas Halmi of the English Faculty at Oxford University: 'Blake had a sense of a poet as a visionary or prophetic figure,' said Professor Halmi. 'Someone who had insight into society from the outside, and insight into the spiritual nature of man.

This piece is an articulation of color and light, imagination, brushstrokes texture - a visual experience that has beauty, depth and feeling.

Alexis Portilla's large scale pieces like Black Elk, Chromatic Fantasy and his newer pieces "Tyger Tyger" are spectacular pieces in terms of the atmospheric brushwork, colors and textures. His bold linear lines, use of symbols, pictographs and strong colors create atmospheric abstracts. Influenced by the emotion of artistic expression in music, poetry and literature, the artist finds bold expression in color, lines and shapes that resemble pictographs, and texture. High resolution picture is shown herein.

“Using simple forms and creating swathes of rich texture, Alexis Portilla builds atmospheric abstract paintings that convey a sense of time having passed. Brushy areas of color suggest the indeterminacy of memory, while bold linear forms speak for the present.”
